One Take Wonders pt. 9: Somebody’s Cryin’

We are back, and I think we are doing a semi-admirable job of staying updated regularly!! We plan to keep it up right up until our performance at McNally Robinson Booksellers (Specifically Prairie Ink restaurant). We are learning a ton of new songs to keep us interested and vital for the future. And who knows, this renewed commitment to regular practice and playing may result in some new original material (or at least a reworking of old material)!

Chris Isaak is an amazing performer and writer, and we picked an upbeat song with some mopey, break-up-ey lyrics to cover for fun. Enjoy!

Until next time,

One Take Wonders pt. 8: Love Song

Hey all! In keeping with Larry and I booking a gig and entering a new era (so to speak), we decided to crank out a quick and very obviously unrehearsed One-Take Wonder! We will be updating weekly from here on out, likely on the weekends. Turns out basements aren’t awesome lighting/shooting conditions, but we will get back to our outdoors-y roots on the next one, promise!

This one is an original from a band called Third Day, who you may remember us covering on a previous One-Take Wonder, I’ve Always Loved You. I hope you enjoy the video and the song; this one takes me back to my misspent youth…

Until Next Time,

So it’s been a while…

Yeah, we haven’t been the most stellar updaters as far as the site goes, but it works for ME, I don’t work for IT, alright?

Anyway, we actually have an update, so here it is- we have a gig coming up in late fall! More details to come, as well as some more One-Take Wonders as we brush up on our catalog and learn some new stuff for the performance at a certain Saskatonian bookselling establishment…

Until next time,

One Take Wonders pt. 7: Wonderwall

Hello All! We are Ryan Adams fans. We learned this one recently and performed it at our latest appearance, and still aren’t sick of it, because it’s just that good! I love sitting on Larry’s step and just singing while people walk by his house and give us weird looks. The robins chirping in the background also give it some welcome atmosphere. Great summer evenings!   😉

We have a gig!

We will be playing a gig at this year’s JDRF Walk! I don’t have the specifics yet, but it look like we will playing a couple sets of music in the main run area for anyone to hear and lending our sound equipment to the cause for the day as well! I work for Telus, and as such, will be the area prime for the Telus corporate stores in lovely Saskatoon. I will be giving a speech as well, welcoming people to the event and talking about the great cause we are running for!

Please check out the page for the event, and consider running, walking, or limping to the finish line to raise money to fight Type 1 diabetes! I’ve heard there will be good music….

The event will be on June 14, 2015, and registration is usually around 10am. Check back closer to the date for more details!

One Take Wonders Ep. 6: I Am Set Free

It’s been a while!! We decided that after the busy holiday season, we needed to get back to basics, and start putting some music out there again! Also, I am starting to write some new material. For now, this is a song we both love called I Am Set Free, by All Sons and Daughters!! Enjoy!

Carol for a Child – A gift to you.

Larry and I recorded this one last year, and I wrote it a few years ago, despite my overarching cynicism about Christmas music as a genre. I just wanted to convey the type of warmth and genuine feeling that my few favorite holiday songs do! This is a Christmas gift from Whispered Words to all of you!!

One Take Wonders Ep. 5: Hearts Open

Hey All!

Another One-Take Wonder, this time by a band called Ivoryline. Great rock song, with such a solid melody that it withstood being stripped back and swapped to acoustic! Enjoy.

Until next time,

One Take Wonders Ep. 4: I’ve Always Loved You

Yes, it has been a long time coming! The fourth in the One-Take Wonders series! Live from Larry’s basement and featuring the multi-talented Dylan Flowers (ask him about his Mario Kart high scores) on the cajon for percussion (pronounced ca-HONE)!

We really like Third Day’s style, their lead singer’s voice and mine occasionally fall into the same range, and it is really fun to do some of their stuff from time to time! This one is called I’ve always Loved You, and has the distinction of being the lead singer Mac Powell’s favorite Third Day song as well. Enjoy!

Oh, also, we have booked a gig for the end of September!! It’s going to be sweet. If you want to check it out, click HERE (or go click on the SHOWS tab on the main menu) and stay tuned, as more details will be forthcoming as we approach the date.

Until Next Time,
