We’re going to be on TV!!

That’s right, we will be making our first TV appearance this week!!

On Friday, June 6 at 8:25am, Whispered Words will be interviewed on the Global TV Saskatoon Morning Show, and then we will play a song!!

I had the opportunity to meet Joelle from the Global TV Morning Show at a friend’s place recently, and after talking with her about the CD Release Party for a bit, she asked for the band website (good thing I had just built it!), and said she might be in touch to have us on. I filed it under “nice things people say at parties” and thanked her, and did not expect to get the email we received a couple of days later asking if Friday the 6th would work!

Amazing what opportunities arise, hey? I am so thankful for the chance to share our music with a wider audience who might never hear it otherwise!

So tune in and check out a glimpse of what the CD Release is going to be like! Larry and myself and our friend Ty are going to play an acoustic version of one of our songs.

Until next time,

Practice Number 1!

Our first practice for the big CD Release Party on June 14th!! We were just missing a couple of folks for this one: Chelsea, our harmonist extraordinaire, and our percussionist, Sir Paul! We had a great run-through, though, and got a good feel for what we are going to be capable of on the Big night! I am so blessed to be surrounded by such capable and talented musicians!

Can’t wait for the next one!

Until next time,

Our Special Guest, or: Cat pictures not included.

This is Julia Dawn:

Julia is a local singer/songwriter who hails from Swift Current, SK. She has been a Saskatonian for a few years now, though, and has made herself a part of the vital musical community in our lovely city!

Julia and I met a couple of years ago, and a shared interest in music kept us chatting and keeping up with each other. I got to attend her CD release party, and soon after I saw her do an opening gig for one of my musical heroes! More recently, she has been a regular performer at a local java hut called Coffee’s On, has been officially selected as World Vision artist, and is a large part of the music program at a local church! She’s been busy.

Since becoming acquainted with Julia and her husband, I have enjoyed talking shop with her (and talking cell-phone nerd language with her husband), and when the opportunity arose to record my own album (partly inspired by her recent efforts), I thought “I need to have her on there somewhere!” I approached her, and she graciously agreed to lend her vocals and her time. She also has performed one of the songs from the album with me already!

Reflecting now, the things that have stuck me the most when seeing her perform have been her warmth, her openness, and her almost blistering raw talent! Her voice has incredible power, perfect pitch, and an amazing range! Even when listening to and enjoying her debut album (A Place to Call My Own), I found myself mentally fast-forwarding to what her sound might be like a couple albums down the road, and getting excited to see her grow as an artist! (This is also known as “music-geeking-out”)

So now the CD release time is approaching. Larry and I have solidified Whispered Words as a duo, Julia’s vocals are on the album and complete, and it seemed the next natural step would be to see if she would like to be part of our big night!! She swiftly jumped on board, and we are so fortunate!! One of the only things I enjoy as much as performing my music is watching someone else knock it out of the park, so I am going to be SPOILED come June 14.

And there we have it! Julia Dawn will be playing an opening set on the night of the CD release (June 14 at 7pm at Hope Fellowship Church, Saskatoon), and wil be staying after to lend her considerable piano talents and BGVs to the rest of the night as well!

If you missed the first link to Julia’s Facebook page, here it is.
Jump over there right away, check out her music and her videos (what’s a “vlog” again?), LIKE her page, and come see her at our big night!

Until next time,

P.S.  No, I DON’T think the leopard-print she is wearing in the above photo violates the new “no cat pictures” site bylaw; besides, she is TOTALLY pulling it off. 😉

BIG news on the horizon! Also, adorable cat picture.

So yeah, we are already having a CD release soon, so how big can the news be, really? Well, the answer is: big enough for the likes of us.

I am really excited to share this particular news with y’all, but it is not quite finalized yet, so it will have to wait a wee while longer, aaaaaand you just realized this entire post is a tease. And you’re a little angry. So here is picture of an adorable smiling kitten to take the edge off:

Theeeere you go. Just let the cuteness happen.

I will update you soon, I promise; very shortly after I know, YOU will know.

Until next time,

P.S. Listening to:

The Afters: Life is Beautiful. Has a 90’s power-pop vibe to it, with a dash of One Republic-ness and some other elements as well. Enjoying it immensely!

Gearing up!

I have now delivered all but a couple of the CD Release party posters to local businesses, I have pretty much finished redesigning the whisperedwords.ca site, and I am intensely proud of how it turned out. My brain is full of WordPress basic website design knowledge that I am going to try to desperately hold on to; I may talk about it in my sleep. All the running about was worth it, however, when My Beautiful Wife and I went into the McNally Robinson Booksellers to get a good meal and saw this:

Pretty surreal! I cannot wait to see how it all turns out.

Resurrection Weekend

Hey all!

I just wanted to drop a line and tell you all about an amazing event coming up right away that I am proud to be part of! I have been attending a lovely, warm church since last summer called Hope Fellowship here in Saskatoon, and one of the yearly staples during the season of the Crucifixion is The Hour Has Come; 48 straight hours of worship! During this time, like-minded people with musical talents play (sometimes multiple) 2 hour sets of worship music while anyone attending can worship in their own way, as the church body has set up many different stations for creative expression throughout the sanctuary. There is an outpouring of people’s talents and gifts, prayer and song for two straight days! It starts with Good Friday and culminates with Resurrection Sunday, and the mood is exuberant as everyone in the church body gets together and celebrates the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus!

As for me, I will be worshipping with my voice from 6pm to 8pm on the eve of Good Friday, and my good friend, album producer, and musical cohort Colin will be playing guitar to accompany me- Larry will be out of town, as he is otherwise engaged this weekend.

I would encourage any who want to come out in the spirit of this event to attend! It’s not going to be a Whispered Words concert by any means, but it is near to my heart, as none of my music would exist without the desire to worship Christ with my life and the talents he has given me.

And hey, the more the merrier… Let’s make it rowdy in there, and make lots of joyful noise!

The Hour Has Come starts Good Friday at 12pm and ends on Sunday at 12pm! It is come and go, so whenever your schedule allows, the church will be open the entire time for you to come out and worship!

Hope Fellowship Church is at 809 32nd St W, Saskatoon, SK.

Until next time,

Progress on the E.P.

Just an update on the music side of things:

This week, Larry and I are both going into the studio for two days to get some things finished up!! Larry is adding guitar tracks (with his beautiful Takamine) to a couple of the songs that sorely need it, and adding bass tracks to all the songs on the E.P.! Also, we had a breakthrough on the one song that was a tough nut to crack!!

The song Old Letters has always been important to me; without trying to sound overly dramatic, it came to me in a dream, fully formed.  I have always felt that there was something musically missing from it that was holding it back, though. I think we have now figured it out, and I am so excited to share the album version with everyone once the E.P. is released!! The vibe is very different from the first version we recorded, but the melodic foundation has always been solid, so it allows us to fiddle with it sufficiently.  😉

We are truly in the home stretch now!! Colin and Larry and I are finishing up the tracks and then making the last creative decisions as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience everybody!! I know we have been teasing this for almost a year, but we are dedicated to making sure you all only get the best possible version of these songs!

We are so grateful to everyone who came out and supported us and supported Moka! We were pretty excited to learn some new covers and stretch our legs, and we plan to book some more gigs in the near future at more places around Saskatoon- also, we will  be releasing a 6-song E.P. soon, and we are so excited to share our original music with you!

I want to give a big THANK YOU to Moka for hosting us, and to Colin at Revelation Studios for donating the beautiful Bose equipment for sound! (Colin is also the producer and engineer of our forthcoming E.P.)

Here are some pics from the gig; I will be cutting up and releasing some video clips to Youtube and linking them here very soon as well!
